Unified threat management (UTM) performs content filtering to determine the file type based on the file content and not on file extensions. This feature complements application identification (App ID) by enabling you to configure the firewall to identify and to control access to the Web (HTTP and HTTPS) traffic and to protect your network from attacks. This content filtering improvement replaces the existing content filtering based on filename extensions and profile-based filtering on application profiles.
Use the show security utm content-filtering statistics command to view the content-filtering system statistics and errors. With this feature implementation, we do not support content filtering based on MIME type, content type, and protocol commands. The legacy content-filtering configurations are deprecated and are hidden. You will receive system logs and error messages if you try to configure the legacy content filtering options. You can use the legacy functionality if you don't want to migrate to this improved functionality.
