MAC learning: Increased capability

If you enable software-based media access control (MAC) learning on the switch, the Packet Forwarding Engine caches the first ingress packet with a unique MAC ID. The packet is reinserted automatically after the MAC ID is added to the Ethernet table in the Routing Engine.
