IPv6 over MPLS (6VPE)

More Information:

IPv6 over MPLS (6VPE)

You can configure the interfaces between the PE and CE routers of a Layer 3 VPN to carry IPv6 traffic. Subsequently, IPv6 tunneling over MPLS tunnels, using IPv6 VPN Provider Edge Routers (6VPE), enables you to transport IPv6 VPN traffic over an MPLS-based IPv4 network. With this design, you can provide IPv6 VPN service without having to upgrade the transport infrastructure of the core network to support IPv6. BGP is used to exchange IPv6 VPN prefixes between the IPv6 VPN Provide Edge (6VPE) routers, and data is tunneled between these 6VPE routers by means of any type of IPv4-based MPLS LSP - for example, an LDP-based or RSVP-based LSP.
