In segment routing networks that have a large number of provider edge (PE) devices, a large amount of configuration is required for setting up the segment routing-traffic engineering (SR-TE) label-switched paths (LSPs), although only a few SR-TE paths may be used. BGP-triggered dynamic creation of these LSPs reduces the amount of configuration in such deployments. In a BGP-triggered dynamic SR-TE LSP creation architecture, the SR-TE tunnel templates, containing common tunnel parameters, are configured and used to construct the tunnels dynamically depending on the actual protocol next hops of the BGP prefixes. The BGP prefixes are advertised with a color extended community, which eventually helps identify which SR-TE template the BGP prefix should resolve onto.
