Services offloading is a mechanism for processing fast-path packets in the network processor instead of in the Services Processing Unit (SPU). The high-end SRX Series devices currently have long packet-processing latency because of packet processing through the Services Processing Unit (SPU) and through several stages of buffers in the data path. This feature introduces a local forwarding solution where the fast-path packets areprocessed by the EZchip on the I/O Card (IOC), without going through the switch fabric or the SPU. This solution reduces latency. This method reduces the long packet processing latency that arises when packets are forwarded from networkprocessors to SPUs for processing and back to I/O cards (IOCs) for transmission. The user needs to have a permanent low-latency firewall license to enable this feature on the chassis.
