MVPN live-live solution

The MVPN live-live solution helps to keep your network live all the times. You can enable it in a next-generation multicast VPN (MVPN) with multicast LDP point-to-multipoint (P2MP) provider tunnel. When you enable the MVPN live-live configuration, the receiving PE automatically switches over to the backup path if it encounters any failure while forwarding the traffic from the primary path to the customer network. To enable this solution:

• Configure the sender-based-rpf option by running the [set routing-instances routing-instance-name protocols mvpn sender-based-rpf] command. This option is disabled by default.
• Configure the hot-root-standby option by running the [set routing-instances routing-instance-name protocols mvpn hot-root-standby] command. You can configure this option only if sender-based RPF is enabled.

Starting in 26.2, you can also use the following configurations to enhance hot-root standby (HRS):

• To refine upstream multicast hop (UMH) selection by considering multicast LDP tunnel health, enable the tunnel-status option at the [edit protocols mvpn umh-selection-additional-input] hierarchy level. The device excludes ingress provider edge (PE) routers without valid tunnels and retriggers selection based on the egress label status.
• To revert MVPN flows to the stable primary path on the egress PE router, issue the request mvpn hrs-force-revert command. You can filter the reversion by instance, group, and source.

If a PE router is configured as a receiver-only site, the route-target import community is removed from advertised unicast routes to prevent UMH selection.
