An option is provided to see the serial number and hardware version details for the second Routing Engine. A second Routing Engine is required for configuring dual control links in chassis cluster mode. The second Routing Engine is used only for the backup control link. With this feature, the second Routing Engine performs a normal startup and you can use the show chassis hardware command to view details such as the part number and serial number.
