You can enable CFM monitoring between provider-edge (PE) devices and customer-edge (CE) devices when the CE device is not a Juniper Networks device by using the remote defect indication (RDI) bit. When the status of the EVPN provider edge device is standby, the EVPN VPWS service is notified and it sets the interface status to CCC-down. When the interface status is CCC-down, it indicates that the PE service is down. When you enable CFM monitoring, CFM propagates the status of the PE device via the RDI bit in the CC messages. Thus, the CE device is aware that the PE device is down. The RDI bit is cleared when the service is back up.
To enable CFM monitoring by using the RDI bit, use the interface-status-send-rdi statement at the [edit protocols oam ethernet connectivity-fault-management maintenance-domain md-name maintenance-association ma-name continuity-check] hierarchy level. Alternately, you can enable CFM monitoring by using the interface-status-tlv statement at the [edit protocols oam ethernet connectivity-fault-management maintenance-domain md-name maintenance-association ma-name continuity-check] hierarchy level.
